Security
Wherever we ask you to supply sensitive personal details (name, address, credit card number, etc.) to us on the Labcenter Electronics web site we do so via a secure web server to ensure that information is secure from interception.
A secure web server ensures that all information transferred between you and the server is transferred using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption which is the standard for all e-commerce web sites. This means that web pages sent to you are first encrypted by the web server and then decrypted by your browser. Similarly, any information you submit back to the web server is first encrypted by your browser and then decrypted by the web server. In this way all information transferred between your machine and the secure web server is unintelligible to anyone who may be snooping or monitoring the connection.
You can verify whether or not your browser is using encryption by looking for a 'padlock' on its status bar:
In Netscape Communicator a padlock is always shown at the far left of the status bar. If the padlock is shown 'open' then you have an ordinary (insecure) connection and if the padlock is shown 'closed' then you have a secure you have an encrypted (secure) connection:

You can also click the right mouse button on the web page and select 'View Info' to view details of the page and its encryption formats.
In Internet Explorer a padlock is shown on the center right of the status bar when you have an encrypted (secure) connection. If there is no padlock shown you have an ordinary (insecure) connection:

You can also click the right mouse button on the web page and select 'Properties' to view details of the page and its encryption formats.
Once your details are on the web server they are stored there using strong encryption (technically, using RSA encryption with a 2048 bit key) until they are transferred to our own local network for processing at which point they are removed from the web server. Therefore, even if our website is 'hacked' you can be reassured that no customer details can be obtained from it.
